The Gentlemen's Club

The Gentlemen's Club

It is not a prerequisite to know your chukkas from your handicaps to be part of the Truefitt & Hill Club. Our Freshman and Clubman Colognes, for example, have long been favourites of discerning gentlemen, who have walked through Truefitt’s centuries-old doors and played the Windsor Great Park’s polo fields for decades. The link between Truefitt & Hill and Guards Polo Club can be traced back to the Club’s very inception in 1955, as both were honoured to have enjoyed the long patronage of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

London is famous for its exclusive clubs, the places to see and to be seen. But Club life is one that can also take you to a secluded location, away from the hurly-burly of the city. Whether a long-standing institution, with centuries of tradition, or a newly opened private members club, from Marks to The Mortimer, from Whites to Soho House, they provide a seamless blend of worlds of business and lifestyle, each with a highly personal touch.

Truefitt & Hill has been an integral part of the Club life for over two centuries and has become an unrivalled connoisseur in guiding the gentleman in the art of fine traditional grooming to complement their individual sartorial style, setting them on their way, ready for the day, no matter where it takes them.  Out of the city and in the countryside, Truefitt & Hill supports the country pursuits for many of its patrons, widening its footprint with annual event collaborations such as the Windsor Horse Show or Concours of Elegance, staged at the historic Hampton Court Palace. Truefitt also prides itself on longstanding associations with great institutions, such as Guards Polo Club, where members can rely on always finding their favourite range of Truefitt products in the Club’s shop and the bathrooms. It is something our clients have come to expect, and which provides a feeling of reassurance that Truefitt & Hill is by their side, a fragrant reminder of our flagship store on St.James’s.

Rather like Truefitt & Hill, the game of Polo has a long and colourful past. Introduced into India by the Muslim conquerors during the 13th Century, the first Europeans to play the game were British tea planters in Assam, who formed the first European club in Silchar in 1858, at which point Truefitt & Hill was well into its fiftieth decade.  Truefitt’s many products inevitably found their way to the far-flung Polo fields, and were, to many players, a fragrant reminder of home.

The sport has long attracted the stylish set of the continent and subcontinent, some with their magnificent moustaches and wondrous whiskers, while others fresh-faced and clean-shaven,  they all could rely on Truefitt & Hill to have a hand in managing the facial foliage of the polo world.

So, as you continue with your summer pursuits at the Club, in the city or countryside, you can always take comfort that Truefitt & Hill’s welcomes you by its side.
